Rope Access Expands In 2014
Rope Access has expanded rapidly in recent years with little grey area in-between those who embrace rope access contracts and those who remain skeptical. In giving rope access seminars nationally; one common response resonates clear, "rappelling is a hobby and is dangerous." Typically the table below provided by the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) is enough for an open minded discussion.

US INDUSTRY SECTOR 2010 Incidence of Injury and Illness per 100,000
All Industry and Public Sector 1,200
Agriculture, forestry, fishing 1700
Manufacture 1100
Construction 1500
IRATA 193

Such impressive statistics are a direct result of combining strict training requirements with new equipment technology. Few understand the capabilities and high level of safety rope access work is because of the "rappelling perspective." New advances in equipment that were meant for increased safety has added ability by default. Certified rope access technicians can now arrive on-site, perform a safe working plan, set up, perform any number of tasks whether vertical, horizontal or diagonal and be done before scaffolding or work platforms can be partially erected. Combine the highest safety rating, quick results and substantial cost savings, rope access should be a consideration for all inspection projects.
