To further enhance ATS capabilities, Heat Treatment (HT) services have been added to our client offerings. Heat Treatment (HT) is the controlled heating and cooling of metals to alter their physical and mechanical properties. A couple of ways HT is used may include:

  • Improve machining, formability and to restore ductility after a cold working operation.
  • Advances product performance by increasing strength and other desirable characteristics.

The benefit of preheating is to reduce the cooling rate of the deposited weld metal, allowing time for it to fuse properly with the adjacent base metal. The advantages of this process include:

  • Uniform heat penetration
  • Maintaining specific minimum temperatures
  • Less downtime with components
  • Welder productivity
  • Eliminates manual preheat – example: "rosebuds"
  • Eliminates any open flames reducing a major safety issue
  • Recordable documentation of preheat

The benefit of Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) provides stress relief. This is a crucial step in maximizing the life of process equipment. PWHT tempers the metal and reduces tensile stresses, minimizing the risk of brittle fracture, stress and corrosion cracking and metal fatigue. This is especially important for equipment used in harsh service environments.

HT provides a crucial step in maximizing the life of process equipment. ATS can now provide low voltage, electrical resistance Pre and Post Weld Heat Treatment Services.
