On November 6th the metallurgy department began a week-long project in Chincha, Peru (3 hours south of Lima) in a tissue producing facility.
ATS transported over 200lbs of equipment to perform microstructural replication on the exterior and interior of a boiler believed to have overheated.
Over 100 areas were ground, polished, and etched for microstructure. ATS used a portable microscope along with polymer resin replicas that were fully evaluated once the team returned to the Marietta office. The microstructural survey found no significant differences between new and old tubes, indicating no significant overheating event had occurred, despite the report misaligned burner.
