The ASTM E132 (ASTM E132-17) testing standard establishes methods for structural elasticity testing involving tensile and compressive forces. Poisson’s Ratio is used when designing structures that are susceptible to different types of dimensional changes due to various applications of force, and ASTM E132 testing obtains the value of Poisson’s Ratio from uniaxial stress strains. As this testing method is extremely precise, it requires highly experienced mechanical testing experts to ensure the necessary level of accuracy.
