The CPSC’s goal is to protect the general public from risks of significant injury or death from several different kinds of consumer products in the United States, monitoring potential risks of mechanical, chemical, electrical, and fire hazards. With over fifty years of industry experience, Applied Technical Services is proud to be the longest operating CPSC laboratory in the state of Georgia.

Is a CPSC Laboratory Necessary?

Manufacturers need their products tested by a CPSC-approved laboratory to meet quality standards and reduce potential liability. Since the introduction of the CPSC in 1972, the rate of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products has decreased by 30 percent. CPSC approval applies to many different types of products, but a particularly important sector of manufacturing is that of toys and children’s consumer products safety. The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 was signed into law in 2008. The legislative bill is HR 4040 and was unanimously approved by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007 and was passed by the U.S. Senate the following year. This law allows the CPSC to set new acceptable levels of hazardous substances and impose new testing and documentation requirements for manufacturers and distributors of several different consumer products.
