GPR Contractors

Clients depend on accurate scans and data analysis from their GPR contractors. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a nondestructive tool used to map a concrete structure and locate embedded objects. Experts from ATS can use this powerful technology on hard-to-access concrete structures, such as slab-on-grade foundations.

GPR reveals structural details and deficiencies, including:

Our GPR Surveys
During a GPR survey, an antenna releases electromagnetic waves that reflect off objects in concrete. A computer converts the reflected signals to an image consisting of lines and parabolas. ATS’s GPR consultants have the training and experience to interpret the results of this 2D image:

We can use ferrous metal scanning devices to confirm our readings.

Locating Embedded Objects

Concrete scanning allows users to locate embedded objects without drilling, cutting, or coring the concrete surface. Invasive procedures on concrete expose crews to multiple risks:

If crews must disturb concrete, we recommend they proceed with accurate concrete mapping available through a GPR scan.

Slab Thickness
We can also use GPR to measure concrete slab thickness. Clients may request this service to ensure compliance with building codes for legal and safety purposes. Slab thickness directly impacts a structure’s load-carrying capacity, stiffness, and ability to withstand bending and shear stresses.
Concrete Cover
ATS can use GPR to determine concrete cover, the distance between the surface and rebar, or other embedded reinforcements. Concrete with low rebar coverage can increase risks associated with carbonation, which occurs when carbon dioxide reacts with hydroxides in concrete. Over time, carbonation facilitates the corrosion of steel rebar and loss of concrete strength.
Other Services

Clients can use the outcome of this scan to inform their next steps. We are also capable of material testing and structural condition assessments related to concrete problems:

The ATS Mission
Since 1967, ATS has supported customer safety through consulting engineering, calibration, inspection, and testing services. Our work provides clients across business, industrial, legal, and other professions with accurate data and analysis to support critical decisions. Headquartered in Marietta, Georgia, ATS leads an expanding Family of Companies dedicated to offering efficient and cost-effective solutions.

Our main lab has garnered recognition for its quality management system and testing capabilities. We are A2LA-accredited in calibrations, mechanical testing, electrical testing, chemical testing, and nondestructive testing. We can also perform testing and inspections according to standards from industry authorities. To read more about our certifications, click here.
