ESD testing, or electrostatic discharge testing, is conducted to ensure compliance with industry standards set by the Federal Aviation Administration and Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics. When two differently charged subjects come into contact, an exchange of electrons causes electrostatic discharge. ESD can transfer thousands of volts of electricity from one subject to another, potentially damaging sensitive electronic components.
