Powder Metallurgy Services

Applied Technical Services offers powder metallurgy services, ensuring that clients’ materials meet necessary requirements. Powdered metals must undergo thorough verification before use in a final product. Discrepancies in metal grade or grain size could negatively impact a product’s strength and durability. Our experts help clients avoid these issues by recommending and performing tests that gather essential data quickly and efficiently.
Our Powder Testing Methods
Our clients need precise control over their material’s characteristics, including tensile strength, elasticity, impact durability, corrosion resistance, melting point, and electrical conductivity. We can verify a powder’s identity and key characteristics using our metallurgical testing capabilities.
Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy
Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) provides a means for examining a powder’s elemental makeup. Shooting a sample with a high-powered electron beam causes the material to emit a distinctive spectrum of x-rays. This spectrum coveys the approximate elemental composition of the individual particles. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) also generates high-magnification imaging and dimensional measurements for individual particles. ATS is A2LA accredited to perform EDS testing according to ASTM E1508.
X-Ray Diffraction
Our experts perform x-ray diffraction (XRD) testing to examine a material’s crystal structure, identifying the comprising compounds. Powder x-ray diffraction characterizes a material’s microstructural behaviors in detail, making the technique a convenient and reliable nondestructive testing method. XRD analysis can assist clients with reverse engineering, contaminant identification, and corrosion failure analysis. ATS performs XRD testing in accordance with ASTM D934.
Additional Services
ATS offers numerous microstructural, particle size distribution, metallography, and coating testing and analysis services. Our expert metallurgists, chemists, professional engineers, and failure analysts work to satisfy all our client’s powder testing needs.
