Our Visual Inspection Techniques

ATS uses a variety of visual inspection techniques to assess equipment for numerous industries. Our certified NDT professionals assist commercial and industrial clients across the globe with gauging equipment conditions, product quality, and other applications. We offer a diverse array of advanced inspection techniques to suit the wide range of inspection opportunities we can fulfill.
ATS conducts visual inspections for pipes, bolts, vessels, decking, tanks, studs, and other equipment. We can assess corrosion, welds, cracks, porosity, and other traits according to API, AWS, and AISC standards, depending on the client’s needs.
Remote Visual Inspection
Remote visual inspection (RVI) is a visual inspection technique that allows inspectors to evaluate structures and components remotely through specialized camera systems. Our RVI experts use robotic crawlers, borescopes, drones, magnetic crawlers, and push cameras to inspect small, hazardous, and otherwise inaccessible locations. RVI produces high-resolution visuals that clients can save for future reference. RVI also has the capacity for 3D analysis. These qualities allow inspectors to assess cracks, corrosion, and other mechanical damage with precision. We use remote visual inspection techniques to evaluate a wide range of equipment, including:
Remote visual inspection assists clients with more than failure prevention; RVI helps manufacturers with research and development as well. During test engineering, our experts can assess operating conditions for turbines and other equipment in real-time. The data we gather can help optimize the machinery’s life cycle.
Applications in FOSAR
Foreign object search and retrieval (FOSAR) is a technique for locating and removing tools, parts, dirt, or other debris from within confined spaces. When materials become lost inside equipment, they can cause several problems, such as impact damage, blockages, or inoperability. RVI allows inspectors to remove lost items safely and efficiently.
Our RVI experts can also conduct FOSAR operations in foreign material exclusion (FME) zones, where foreign materials could pose safety, mechanical, or economic risks. As a minimally invasive NDT technique, RVI is an efficient method for exploring FME zones.
