Applied Technical Services offers portable hardness tester calibration. These pieces of equipment measure the hardness of materials. The four methods of hardness testing are Rockwell, Brinell, Knoop, and Vickers Hardness Testing. Rockwell hardness testing tends to be the most performed because of its precision and ease of use. At ATS, we offer both Rockwell and Vickers hardness testing methods in our metallurgy lab. The Vickers hardness test is for all solid materials, including metals. Rockwell, on the other hand, measures the bulk hardness of metallic and polymer materials. Technicians perform the Rockwell hardness method by pressing an indenter, often a steel ball or diamond, onto the sample’s surface with a specific load and then measuring how far down it penetrated.
