Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) adds PFAS and Phthalates

In February 2021 the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) updated the list of regulated chemicals. TPCH has added perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and ortho-phthalates. The limit for ortho-phthalates is 100 ppm and for PFAS none should be found in the packaging. Prior to this addition the prohibition included cadmium, lead, mercury, and hexavalent chromium in packaging components. TPCH limits heavy metals to 100 ppm. The purpose of this law is to prevent pollution by limiting the intentional use of heavy metals and now also PFAS and ortho-phthalates. Compliance to the law is the responsibility of manufacturers and suppliers. Please contact ATS today to assist with your TPCH testing needs.
