UAE Updates RoHS Regulations

RoHS 3
UAE RoHS Changes Effective January 2020
The UAE’s Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS), which regulates local and imported products marketed in the United Arab Emirates for safety and quality, has updated its RoHS regulations.

To limit hazardous substances, the ECAS program expanded its RoHS regulation on electrical and electronic devices (EEE) – adding restrictions to four new phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP). All manufacturers, retailers, authorized representatives, importers, and distributors of products must comply with the new UAE RoHS regulation before it goes into effect on January 1, 2020.

The ECAS program, introduced in 2015, was created by the UAE government to push products towards new safety, efficiency, and environmental standards. ECAS applies to multiple industry sectors: electronic, electrical, gas appliances, machinery, automotive, building and construction, cosmetics, and food. ECAS is regulated by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).
