Our Special Inspections
Structural Steel and Bolting
- Review Bolting Materials – Bolts, Nuts, Washers, Direct Tension Indicators, Fastener Coatings, Fastener Quality, Proper Identification on Package, Certifications
- Bolted Joints – Snug tight, Pretensioned, Slip-Critical, Faying Surfaces, Bolt Holes, Washers and other Connectors
- Proper Storage and Lubrication
- Proper Torque-Tension
- Snug Tight Installations
- Pretensioning Methods – Turn-of-Nut, Twist Off, Direct Tension, Calibrated Wrench
Welding Special Inspector
- Review of Welding Codes – AWS, ASME, EN, ISO, IBC, etc.
- Review of Welding Process – SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-S, GTAW, ESW, EGW
- Confirm Matching Filler Metals
- Preheat and Interpass Temperature
- Review of Weld Joints – Prequalify, Weld Backing, Weld Tabs, Weld Access Holes, Copes, and Reentrant Corners, Plugs and Slot Welds
- Review of Fabrication – Weld Equipment, joint prep, Fit-up, Thermal Cutting Process, Distortion Control, and Dimensional Tolerances
- Review of Welding Procedure Specifications and Qualifications – Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) & Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ)
- Weld Appearance – Weld Discontinuities, Weld Repairs, etc.
- Inspection and NDT – Observation under AWS D1.1 and AISC and Visual Inspection, AWS, ASME, EN, ISO, IBC, etc.
- Fatigue – TIG GTAW dressing, burr grinding, toe peening, ultrasonic methods
Spray Applied Fireproofing
Many times, new commercial structures or existing structures that are going through renovations or upgrades will need a Spray Applied Fireproofing Inspection. The inspections will include the items listed below:
- Review IBC – International Building Codes and Recommended Application of Fire-resistive Materials
- Review Manufacturer’s Recommendations – Fire Resistive Material Manufacturer Application Instructions and Repair Recommendations
- Identify New, Renovated, or High Traffic Areas that Need Inspection
- Visually Identify Damage Areas – to Ensure Fire-resistive Material has Proper Thickness and Bonding
- Confirm the Proper Fire-resistive material being applied
- Consider Other Standards – ASTM E605, ASTM E736, IBC, American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
