Applied Technical Services performs aerospace fusion weld testing in adherence with the AWS D1.17 testing standard.
AWS D17.1: Aerospace Fusion Welding
AWS D17.1 is the code for aerospace fusion welding set by the American Welding Society that provides the general welding requirements for welding aerospace and aviation hardware. This code is commonly used in both the United States and the rest of the world. AWS D17.1 applies to welding titanium-based, magnesium-based, cobalt-based, iron-based, and nickel-based alloys utilizing high energy beam and electric arc processes and covers inspection, personnel qualification, procedure qualification, welding design, and acceptance criteria for aerospace fusion welding. This standard also establishes requirements for the cover repair welding of existing hardware. AWS D17.1 divides metals and alloys into the following sections:
- Section 1A: Carbon and Alloy Steels
- Section: 1B: Heat Treatable Alloy Steels
- Section 2A: Stainless Steel
- Section 2B: Precipitation Hardenable Stainless Steel
- Section 3A: Nickel and Nickel Base Alloys
- Section 3B: Precipitation Hardening Nickel and Nickel Base Alloys
- Section 4: Non Heat Treatable Aluminum Alloys
- Section 5: Magnesium Alloys
- Section 6: Titanium Alloys
- Section 7: Cobalt Base Alloys
- Section 8: Alloys that do not conform to other groups
