Applied Technical Services provides tumble testing services to verify the resilience and structural integrity of products, typically portable electronic devices and equipment.
What is Tumble Testing?
Tumble testing consists of subjecting an object to repeated drops in a controlled environment by placing it inside a tumble tester. This tester is then programmed with the number of falls, the level of speed, and other variables. Our technicians monitor the state of the test subject closely during this process, identifying physical damage such as material deformation, scratches, scuffs, abrasion, and chipping paint and plastic. This testing method provides useful information for manufacturers, giving insight into product durability and identifying potential design flaws.
Common Applications
ATS performs tumble and drop testing on a wide variety of devices. If a product is portable or handheld and it is probable that it will experience drops or sudden contact as a part of its standard operating conditions, tumble testing is likely beneficial. If you are unsure if tumble testing is right for your product, please contact us. We most commonly perform this testing method on the following products:
- Cellular Phones and Devices
- Cameras and Video Cameras
- Navigation Systems
- Remote Controls
- Wristwatches and Smart Watches
- Protective Cases and Devices
