The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) offers condition assessment schemes that evaluate the structural condition of oil tankers.

What is a Condition Assessment Scheme?

A condition assessment scheme, or CAS, is a required statutory survey scheme. A CAS is specifically designed for Category 2 and Category 3 (non-double hull) oil tankers. The vessels must complete the survey scheme by 15 years of age or before their renewal survey. CAS must be completed in conjunction with the Enhanced Safety Program (ESP), which is a detailed safety guideline for shipping companies and vessel owners. CAS builds upon the ESP and contains additional requirements, such as:

  • The survey must be planned 8 months before the survey’s commencement
  • The flag administration must issue the five-year full term and review and observe the survey and reporting process

More About Our CAS Services

Our qualified surveyors conduct CAS to inspect the safety, reliability, and functionality of our clients’ vessels. Our comprehensive inspection process is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and highly trained inspectors with decades of collective experience evaluating tankers. Our CAS services are designed to help clients with tankers that fit the following descriptions:

  • Oil tankers with a deadweight of 5,000 tons or more
  • Oil tankers 15 years old or older
  • Oil tankers that weigh more than 5,000 tons and are older than 15 years old while also carrying crude oil cargo with a density of 15oC higher than 900 kg/m3 but lower than 945 kg/m3

The Benefits of CAS

Condition assessment schemes offer numerous benefits for vessel owners and operators, including:

  • Comply with industry standards and regulations
  • Improve safety measures and reduce the likelihood of accidents
  • Monitor high-risk areas for signs of concern
