The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) inspects the condition of hulls and their components and equipment in accordance with a condition assessment program. The marine sector is an integral part of modern society as it’s essential for economic growth and global trade. Marine vessels are highly regulated to ensure safety, efficiency, and uniformity across international waters. Condition assessment programs, like those offered by ATS, are one of the many ways vessel owners and operators can highlight their commitment to properly maintaining their vessels.

What is a Condition Assessment Program?

A condition assessment program, or CAP, is an optional, but highly detailed assessment of a vessel’s condition at the time of inspection. The purpose of a CAP is to document the status of aged vessels, enabling inspectors to judge them by their current condition as opposed to their age. CAPs can be carried out at any time and during the inspection process surveyors assign five grades to each of the items surveyed. In addition to hull structures, CAPs evaluate cargo handling, machinery, and equipment.

Why are CAPs Important?
