Why is MIL-STD 461 UAV EMC Testing Important to Drone Compliance?

The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (ATS FoC) conducts MIL-STD 461 UAV EMC testing to ensure unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) comply with the required standards. To support consistent operations without interference, regulatory bodies such as the Department of Defense (DoD) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) require UAVs to meet established EMI and EMC standards.  

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) occurs when energy from electronic components disrupts nearby systems. UAVs rely on integrated electronics and are particularly susceptible to both internal and external interference, which can impact motor control, sensors, and navigation. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing measures the extent of system interference. 

MIL-STD 461 UAV EMC testing helps ensure these systems perform reliably in the field.  

What is MIL-STD 461 Testing?  

MIL-STD 461 is a military standard that defines requirements for electrical system emissions and resistance to interference. Testing subject systems to different types of interference to assess performance and compliance.
