A final rule was released by OSHA on November 17th, 2016, concerning general standards on walking-working surfaces and personal protective equipment. These recent updates were the result of an alarming amount of workplace slip, trip, and fall deaths, and injuries. Once revisions are in place and implemented by business owners, OSHA estimates there will be 29 lives saved and 5,842 injuries prevented yearly.

Fall Protection and 1910.27(b)(1) Certification of Anchors
Section 1910.27 highlights that anchors used for rope decent systems cannot be used until the building owner identifies, tests, and certifies that the anchor can support 5,000 lbs. To meet these requirements a qualified person must certify anchors and perform annual inspections. Re-certification and testing will need to take place at least every 10 years. These certification and inspection requirements documenting compliance were required by November 20, 2017.
