SPRAT Level III

Applied Technical Services provides certification and training courses in SPRAT rope access. Level 3 of rope access training qualifies technicians to perform advanced rescues and design the rope systems required to maneuver in elevated areas.

ATS offers SPRAT training courses for candidates seeking certification or recertification as a rope access technician. Students who complete our course and pass evaluations will receive SPRAT certification for their respective level, qualifying them to work at heights using this unique access method.

The Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) is the organization that generates the industry consensus standards for best practices and safety procedures for rope access technicians in the United States. This group also certifies rope access technicians who have demonstrated achievement and proficiency in their field.

What to Expect

SPRAT Level 3 Certification

This training course expands on the concepts learned in the previous SPRAT rope access training levels. Upon course completion, Level 3 candidates will master designing advanced rope access systems and conducting complex rope rescues. Technicians at this level can also act as rope access supervisors and perform any task assigned to lower levels. Certification from SPRAT or its European equivalent, IRATA, is typically required for technicians seeking employment in rope access.

About This Course

Course Outline

Level 3 rope access is the highest level of SPRAT certification a technician can achieve. This course builds upon foundations set by the previous level, granting technicians the responsibility of overseeing work sites in addition to advanced rope access techniques. SPRAT Level 3 candidates are required to have held a level 2 certification for a minimum of 6 months and completed 500 documented hours of level 2 rope access work.

ATS’ SPRAT Level 3 training classes involve four days of hands-on training, followed by a certification session on the final day. During the course, candidates learn to perform advanced rope access techniques and manage a team of technicians.

By the end of training, you will know:

Familiarity with:

  • Their role in rope access procedures
  • Managing a team of rope access technicians
  • Designing rope access systems
  • Estimating clearance requirements
  • Estimating potential forces

How to construct advanced rope systems, such as:

  • Advanced two-rope systems
  • Tensioned rope systems
  • Advanced anchorage systems

How to perform advanced rescue maneuvers, such as:

  • Knot Passes
  • Deviation with a two-rope system
  • Re-anchor with a two-rope system
