High-Resolution Computed Tomography and Its Applications
Applied Technical Services offers High-Resolution Computed Tomography as an efficient, nondestructive testing method for industrial components. Having been utilized for decades in the medical sector, Computed Tomography (CT) Scanning has more recently become a relied-upon testing method for clients working in the industries of aerospace, additive manufacturing, and nuclear power, among other fields. This increase in demand for CT testing has been aided by computer technology advancements that have allowed for high-resolution scans of examined components to be converted into detailed virtual models. During CT inspections, a tested material is rotated on an axis inside a machine where X-ray images are taken. The computer then compiles these images to generate an accurate 3D model, which can then be used to locate internal flaws and take thickness measurements of the original material.
Testing Capabilities
ATS’ high-resolution computed tomography services are performed by our CT technicians, who possess both the extensive operating experience and cutting-edge equipment to provide accurate tests and inspections.
Our industrial CT scanning tools include:
- Zeiss Metrotom 1500, with a 225kV micro-focus
- Annual A2LA calibration
- Certified to accuracy within 4.5 microns
- Chamber fits specimens up to 11.75 in (300mm) in diameter x 23.6 in (600mm) high. 50 kg (110 lb) weight limit.
- Northstar Imaging X5000
- Minifocus 450kV X-ray projector (0.016” Focal spot at 3mA)
- Dual energy capability with 225kV Microfocus X-ray Machine
- Can achieve focal size as low as 0.0002” (based on voltage)
- Multi-Axis Manipulator (x, z, tilt, rotation), capable of supporting max 250 lb
- Resolution of manipulator angle is 0.001°
- Capture elongated subjects unable to fit within a single exposure by scanning with a spiral acquisition
