The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) offers subsurface interface radar services that identify and locate elements buried beneath the surface.
What is Subsurface Interface Radar?
Subsurface interface radar (SIR), also referred to as ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a complex non-destructive testing methodology that uses electromagnetic wave propagation to evaluate the interfaces of materials and subsurface features. SIR is an effective way for experts to examine, map, and measure the conditions beneath the surface. It is useful in marine applications because it’s adept at locating buried objects such as utility lines, pipes, and tanks.
About Our SIR Services
Our Maritime NDT department uses cutting-edge technology to assess structures and environments on behalf of our marine clients. Our team of experts integrates SIR into our inspection process to help promote the safety of workers who may be coring, drilling, and sawcutting in environments where buried subsurface elements, such as PT cables and rebar, may be present. Our professionals provide our clients with detailed information and reports that enable them to avoid unnecessary delays that can occur if workers accidentally cut lines, damage equipment, or encounter hazardous conditions. We use 500 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1 GHz transducers enabling us to conduct SIR inspection for soil depths up to 20 feet and for concrete up to 24 inches thick.
The Benefits of SIR
Subsurface interface radar is a useful tool for business owners and operators seeking to protect their maritime assets. SIR is non-invasive so the inspection process can be conducted quickly without damaging equipment or structures and without compromising operational efficiency.
