SPRAT Level II

Applied Technical Services provides training and certification courses for candidates seeking recognition as a SPRAT level 2 rope access technician. Level 2 certification qualifies technicians to perform rope rescues and advanced techniques, as well as safely navigate elevated work environments.

The Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians, or SPRAT for short, is an administrative organization that sets the industry standards for rope access safety procedures and best practices. This organization certifies rope access technicians to ensure their proficiency and accomplishment.

ATS offers training courses for those looking to recertify in SPRAT rope access or those looking to achieve certification for the first time. Once a technician has passed our course, they will receive SPRAT certification, which qualifies them as a professional rope access technician.

What to Expect

SPRAT Level 2 Certification

This SPRAT rope access training level builds on the knowledge gained from level 1 training courses and in-field experience. By the end of the course, level 2 technicians will learn advanced rope access techniques, rope rescues, and safety evaluations. Technicians will also have a deeper understanding of SPRAT techniques and standards. Employers typically only consider rope access technicians certification from SPRAT or its European equivalent, IRATA.

About This Course

Course Outline

SPRAT rope access training defines three levels of certification, each with expanded responsibilities and training requirements. SPRAT Level 2 requires technicians to have performed 500 documented hours of rope access work and have held a level 1 certification for at least six months before qualifying to participate in the course. Level 2 technicians will be able to correct worksite hazards and perform advanced load transfers under the direction of a level 3 technician.

ATS SPRAT level 2 training classes consist of four training days and one day for evaluations. Candidates will gain experience in rope system construction, offering climbing aids, and performing rescues.

By the end of training, you will know:

Familiarity with:

  • How to perform jobsite safety evaluations
  • Their role in rope access operations
  • How to rig rope access systems
  • How to estimate clearance requirements and potential forces
  • Using multiple systems to transport a suspended load

How to properly construct rope systems, such as:

  • Anchorage systems
  • Retrievable two-rope systems
  • Remote rescue systems

How to execute advanced movement techniques on rope, such as:

  • Aid climbing
  • Retrieving two-rope systems
  • Raising and lowering a suspended load
  • Remote Rescue
  • Rope-to-Rope rescue transfer
