Wood in Toys Exempt from Third Party Testing

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a final rule, 16 CFR Part 1251, for unfinished and untreated trunk wood. The CPSC has determined that natural wood of this sort does not contain heavy metals above the limits contained in ASTM F963-11. Therefore, toys containing unfinished and/or untreated wood are not required to undergo third party testing. However, wood with coatings (paints, varnishes, etc.) or added materials (stains, dyes, treatments, etc.) are subject to third party testing. Additionally, manufactured or processed woods require third party testing. To review the final rule visit the following website:https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2015-12-17/pdf/2015-31723.pdf
