RoHS Compliance Testing
ATS’ Chemical Analysis Division Helps Ensure Electronics are Safe by Testing for ROHS Compliance
The EU RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU) restricts the level of specific hazardous substances in large & small household appliances, computing & communications equipment, consumer electronics, lighting, power tools, toys & sports equipment, medical devices & equipment, control & monitoring equipment, automatic dispensers, and all other electronic and electrical equipment (EEE). The purpose of RoHS is to control the release of hazardous substances to humans and the environment. Exposure to these hazardous substances can occur during the waste process, when electronics and other products are disposed of and ultimately wind up in landfills.
The RoHS restricted substances and allowable levels are as follows: lead (Pb) 0.1%, cadmium (Cd) 0.01%, mercury (Hg) 0.1%, hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) 0.1%, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) 0.1%, polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) 0.1% flame retardants, and phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, and DIBP) 0.1%.
The ATS team of experts provides RoHS testing solutions that include using the following instrumentation: ICP, XRF, FTIR, GC-MS, and others.
