The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) evaluates the tightness of dental implant screws in compliance with ISO 18130.

What is ISO 18130?

The International Organization for Standardization established the ISO 18130 testing standard as a guide for experts evaluating how cyclic loading conditions loosen an implant body and abutment’s connection in endosseous. The standard is used for implant abutments, bodies, joints, and metallic components used in implants. The test method’s objective is to determine how much a screw loosens when it’s exposed to certain conditions. The information collected during the testing process gives manufacturers important insight into their implant’s durability, but it doesn’t directly assess how an implant will perform in vivo.

The Importance of Dental Implant Testing

An effective dental implant can greatly improve the quality of life and confidence of patients suffering from diseases, conditions, and injuries that have left them with damaged or missing teeth. Long before oral surgeons install these implants, independent labs such as ATS, work diligently to help manufacturers confirm the performance capabilities, safety, and longevity of implants. Extensive testing helps significantly reduce the likelihood of mechanical failure and patient harm, while also greatly improving a product’s compliance with FDA and similar regulatory bodies.
