ATS offers MIL-STD-810 Centrifuge Testing to evaluate the structural integrity of devices and materials in the face of intense gravitational forces.
What is MIL-STD-810 Method 513?
MIL-STD-810 Centrifuge Testing is a military standard that tests the structural and mechanical integrity of materials undergoing high-g loads. Manufacturers request this test for materials and subassemblies intended for installation in aircraft, helicopters, aerospace vehicles, and ground/sea launched missiles. Method 513 can encompass a variety of materials for testing. Testing conditions will vary according to their respective materiel, allowing technicians to simulate the most applicable environment.
How does Method 513 work?
Method 513 is a flexible test capable of evaluating a wide variety of materials and their respective environments. As such, the testing conditions will vary, but the three main procedures remain unchanged. Section 2 of MIL-STD-810 outlines various formulas and tables for recommended g-loads for helicopters, aerospace vehicles, aircraft, and ground/sea launched missiles.
The procedures are as follows:
- Procedure 1: Structural Test – Subjecting the device or materiel to a specified g-level while not in operation
- Procedure 2: Operational Test – Subjecting the device or materiel to a specified g-level while in operation
- Procedure 3: Crash Hazard Acceleration Test – Subjecting the device or materiel to very high non-operational g-loads to ensure they do not become a hazard in the event of a crash
