DC Hipot Cable Testing
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies offers DC Hipot cable testing services to analyze and verify the integrity of electrical cable insulation.
High Potential Cable Testing
The DC Hipot cable testing process begins with preparation, ensuring the cable is correctly installed and grounded. Specialized testing equipment is then set up and calibrated, at which point the voltage level and duration are established in accordance with industry standards, cable specifications, and any custom parameters requested by the client. Hipot testing begins by connecting the cable to the high-voltage source and monitoring equipment. A high DC voltage is then applied to the cable’s insulation while observing the leakage current. Throughout the test, the leakage current is closely analyzed to detect any insulation faults or defects. Data is compiled throughout the process and then analyzed. If the leakage current remains below the specified threshold and there are no signs of insulation failure, the cable will not need adjustments or repair. Any residual voltage is carefully discharged from the cable following the test, and a thorough inspection is conducted for signs of damage or degradation. In the event the leakage current exceeds acceptable levels or there are indications of insulation damage, our experts provide recommendations to repair or replace the cable. Our post-test reporting includes documentation of all steps of the testing process, results, and any observations made.
