Applied Technical Services performs PFOA testing to determine the perfluorooctanoic acid content of client sample materials.
Usage and Dangers of PFOA
PFOA, also referred to as perfluorooctanoic acid, is a very specific type of compound that belongs to the perfluorochemical family. PFOA is one of the many members of this group that have been used in heat-, stain-, and water-resistant consumer products all over the world for decades. Unfortunately, they also represent a very serious environmental concern that requires close attention.
After a series of studies and tests conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2002, it was determined that PFOA and related compounds caused a number of developmental and other adverse effects in animals used for testing. As a result, the EPA has made several efforts in the intervening years to attempt to control PFOA in the environment.
What Is PFOA Testing?
Because of this environmental concern, proper PFOA testing is of paramount importance. Soil and other products are analyzed using state-of-the-art technology to identify the level of PFOA and other PFC family members that may be present, which is measured in “parts per billion” or “parts per trillion”. PFOA can then either be filtered out of soil, or other products can be altered by their manufacturers in such a way as to take the PFOA-associated risks out of the equation.
ATS’ Organic Compound Testing Services
At Applied Technical Services, we are proud to offer a wide range of PFOA testing services to clients all over the world. Highly trained and passionate team members, many of whom hold multiple accreditations and certifications, use an analytical technique called Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy, or LC/MS/MS, to detect and quantify PFOA and related components that may be present in materials and products.
Our close analysis and precise measurements empower our clients to take decisive actions to ensure their products comply with state, federal, and international regulations. Request chemical analysis from ATS so you can have confidence in your product’s chemical composition. We accept a wide range of samples for testing, including:
- Textiles
- Cosmetics
- Clothing
- Paper
