In recent months ATS has received an increase in test requests for PFAS (PFOA/PFOS). There are heightened concerns regarding the safe limit of PFAS in consumer products. In 2017 PFAS was added to the California Proposition 65 list. However, OEHHA did not set a maximum allowable does level (MADLs) for either PFOA or PFOS. Per the EPA website PFAS has been identified as cancer causing and is a hormone disruptor. The EPA has established an acceptable limit for drinking water. Washington state has signed a bill that will regulate PFAS in food packaging materials, which will be enforced in 2020. It is expected that other states will also begin to restrict the use of PFAS in the future. PFAS can be found in a variety of materials such as carpet, apparel, textile, packaging, rubber, plastics, cookware, foam, etc. ATS routinely tests for PFOA and PFOS in a variety of materials with a detection limit as low as of 100 parts per trillion (ppt). We can also perform testing on all PFAS analytes with a detection limit as low as 10 parts per billion (ppb). Testing is performed in accordance with an EPA method on our LC/MS/MS.
