What are NMC batteries?
Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) is a type of lithium-ion battery commonly used in electric vehicles, stationary energy storage systems, and portable electronics. NMC batteries have a high energy density, enabling them to store significant amounts of energy in a compact and lightweight package. They also often have a longer cycle life than other lithium-ion batteries, as well as improved resistance to thermal runaway and similar hazards. NMC batteries aren’t without their disadvantages. Cobalt is in high demand, but in limited supply; it can be an expensive element to acquire, so NMC batteries are often more expensive than other lithium-ion alternatives. The batteries themselves also have limited fast charging capabilities, and they require costly thermal management solutions to reduce the likelihood of thermal runaway and overheating.
