What is UL 2056?
The Underwriters Laboratory (UL) developed the UL 2056 standard to address the gap in power bank specific testing standards. The standard protects consumers from fire and explosion related bodily harm and property damage while protecting manufacturers from the reputational harm that would accompany such events. UL 2056 establishes safety criteria for the construction, design, and testing of power banks. Per the 2024 version of the standard, a UL 2056-compliant battery bank’s watt-hour rating may not exceed 100Wh and its output and input voltages may not exceed 60 Vdc.
