The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) evaluates batteries in compliance with the UL 2054 safety standard. As battery technologies evolve and become more prevalent in everyday life, battery-related standards and regulations evolve to ensure that batteries are reasonably safe for consumers. Our battery testing lab is equipped with the necessary equipment, credentials, and personnel to evaluate the safety and performance of batteries, ensuring their compliance with standards such as UL 2054.
What is UL 2054?
The Underwriters Lab developed the UL 2054 standard as a resource for those verifying the safety of household and commercial batteries. The standard applies to both non-rechargeable (primary) and rechargeable (secondary) batteries, aiming to mitigate the risks of battery-related explosions and fires during use, disposal, transportation, and storage. UL 2054 consists of the following tests:
Electrical Testing
- Abnormal charging
- Abusive discharge/overcharge
- Limited power source
- Surface and component temperature
Mechanical Testing
- Drop/free fall
- Mold stress
- 250N force test
The UL 2054 standard is often associated with mobile medical devices, but it’s also applicable to a variety of household and commercial batteries and battery packs.

The Importance of UL Testing and Certification
Compliance with UL testing and certification standards highlights a manufacturer’s commitment to product safety and quality. The UL mark is widely recognized as a symbol of safety, boosting consumer confidence and trust in products that have complied with UL standards. This can help manufacturers remain competitive in the market while protecting themselves from the liability that accompanies poorly tested products.
