The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) tests portable power packs in compliance with the UL 2743 standard. As battery technologies continuously evolve, they’ve become increasingly important to our lives, helping to contribute to our preparedness in both every day and emergency situations. Organizations such as the UL continuously update and revise their safety standards to confirm the safety and reliability of batteries, and our lab is an excellent resource for manufacturers in need of support during the UL certification process.
What is UL 2743?
The Underwriters Laboratory developed the UL 2743 as a safety standard used to evaluate the safety of portable power packs. The standard specifically applies to devices that feature one or more batteries located within an enclosure that use an alternative to grid power when grid power is unavailable. However, UL 2743 does not apply to battery packs designed for phones; instead, it focuses on power packs used for emergency situations such as backup power and car battery jump starters. The standard includes requirements for the power pack’s construction, charging system, and environmental, mechanical, and electrical performances.

In addition to UL 2743 testing services, we offer services for other common standards, such as:
Why are Battery Testing Labs Important?
Battery testing is needed to confirm the safety and functionality of battery systems. Long before batteries and battery-powered products reached their end users, they were heavily evaluated to ensure that they would perform as expected. These tests are often performed by independent labs, such as ATS. This allows independent and impartial experts to assess the strengths and weaknesses or a product, helping to determine its best uses.
