DC Hipot Testing
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) performs DC hipot testing to determine the dielectric strength of electrical cables.
What is a DC Hipot Test?
An DC hipot test, or DC high potential test, is a testing method that evaluates the electrical safety of electronics to determine the quality of their insulation. The DC high potential test specifically applies a high voltage direct current to the device, allowing experts to analyze the product’s ability to endure voltage that exceeds its normal operating range. The DC hipot test is highly effective at revealing defects such as:
- Product design defects and flaws
- Insulation degradation caused by various factors such as age and environmental conditions
- Issues involving poorly spaced components

Our experts use their collective experience to execute tests with the accuracy and precision needed to offer the world-class service that our clients depend on. In addition to DC hipot tests, we conduct the following:
Why is DC Hipot Testing Important?
DC hipot tests are an invaluable asset for manufacturers seeking to verify their electrical equipment’s reliability and safety. The non-destructive test is effective at highlighting weaknesses in insulation that may compromise the experience of the products or equipment’s end user. DC hipot tests offer multiple advantages over their AC hipot tests, including:
- Applying higher voltages that reveal more hidden insulation weaknesses
- Providing a more accurate representation of current leakage
- Increased effectiveness at spotting mechanical damage
