Hipot Testing Services
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) performs hipot testing services that help manufacturers confirm the quality and safety of their electronics.
What is Hipot Testing?
The high potential, or hipot, test is used to measure an electronic device’s insulation and its ability to endure voltage surges that exceed the amount expected during the device’s operation. Hipot tests are effective at identifying significant defects within electrical systems that may compromise an electrical system’s efficiency and operational safety. Hipot tests reveal important information regarding the following:
- Damaged or weakened insulation
- Manufacturing defects such as comprised wires
- Contamination from dirt and debris
- Developing wear and tear that may cause future issues
During the testing procedure, technicians program a hipot tester to the desired voltage before steadily increasing the voltage until it reaches the target level. Technicians monitor the electrical current throughout the test, ensuring that the current does not exceed the safety limit. If the current exceeds the safety limit, the device fails the tests and experts assess the situation to identify the factors that contributed to the failure.
Our Hipot Testing Services
Our electrical testing lab offers comprehensive hipot testing services that evaluate electrical components and devices, ensuring their reliability and safety. Our experts use our advanced equipment to conduct tests that produce a detailed analysis regarding the insulating properties of our clients’ products. Our services expose various types of potential flaws which would cause concern for our clients and their hopes for their products. In addition to our hipot testing services, our experts also conduct the following electrical tests:
Why is Hipot Testing Important?
Hipot testing is useful when doing the following:
- Verifying the insulation strength of a device
- Protecting electrical systems from dangerous voltage spikes
- Following guidelines, rules, and regulations
- Improving quality control and manufacturing practices
