New Testing Capabilities
The Applied Technical Services (ATS) Family of Companies (FoC) provides SARS-CoV-2 surface sampling services to help clients protect their customers and employees from the spread of coronavirus. As businesses in the United States begin to reopen their doors, their client bases grapple with lingering concerns over whether these public places are safe from the virus. There were no commercially available verification methods until recently, only specialized cleaning guidelines and best practices without any way to check that these efforts were proving successful. While available methods of cleanliness verification could determine whether bacteria and mold remained on surfaces following cleaning efforts — and conventional wisdom might dictate that the absence of bacteria or mold indicates the absence of viruses as well — many consumers do not consider this inference sufficient regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
For that reason, ATS is pleased to announce that we now offer surface sample testing specific to detecting SARS-CoV-2 (otherwise referred to as COVID-19 or the novel coronavirus).
How RT-PCR Helps Fight the Spread of SARS-CoV-2
Commercial property owners and managers need to let customers know that their location has been thoroughly cleaned and is free from COVID-19 contamination on high-touch surfaces. Our surface sampling capabilities allow us to verify the absence of the virus and thus validate the effectiveness of EPA- and CDC-recommended cleaning procedures. Using this method, businesses can open and invite customers inside with the additional confidence that their cleaning efforts have been effective.
Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (understandably abbreviated to RT-PCR) identifies the SARS-CoV-2 virus by its genetic material to definitively verify its presence in a surface sample. ATS first works with clients to identify the locations to be sampled. We specifically focus on the high-touch and high-traffic areas mentioned in the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) outline for best practices in sampling surfaces for coronavirus disease, as adapted for commercial and industrial environments. Our field personnel collect these samples, deliver them to an AIHA accredited laboratory for analysis by RT-PCR to determine the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2.
Results are typically available within 48- to 72-hours to get businesses up and running faster. We return a digital report, wherein we break down our findings by sample area and make recommendations to address any locations in which we detected SARS-CoV-2. Businesses with a clean bill of health may want to post our report validating their cleaning procedures to let clients know what they are doing to answer the public’s coronavirus concerns.
