ATS provides UV-Vis Testing (Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy) from our state-of-the-art chemical analysis lab. UV-Vis testing can quickly determine the material purity, concentrations, and composition of compounds. This type of spectroscopy has applications in quality control and research and development for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and life science industries.
The Importance of UV-Vis Testing
We use UV-Vis testing to quantify organic compounds and those of inorganic metals by their absorbance or reflectance at specific wavelengths of light. We often analyze for organic compounds such as formaldehyde in fabrics, polymers, and wood (AATCC 112, EN ISO 14184-1, ASTM D5582). The inorganic analysis includes hexavalent chromium in metal plating and plating solutions (IEC 62321).
How UV-Vis Testing Works
UV-Vis analysis measures the color intensity in a solution. Various compounds and elements will react with reagents/chemicals to develop a color in solution that can be measured at a specific wavelength. Generally, the color intensity is proportional to concentration, which can be precisely determined against a set of carefully prepared standard solutions treated with the same chemicals.
