The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies offers Reese’s Law testing services that ensure our clients comply with the requirements described in Reese’s Law. Consumer product safety requirements are a major concern for manufacturers seeking to ensure the safety of their products as they gain access to different markets. Our Reese’s Law testing services help our clients understand and adhere to the requirements outlined in the law.
What is Reese’s Law?
Enacted in 2022, Reese’s Law mandates specific safety requirements for consumer products containing coin or button cell batteries. The legislation requires compliance with the UL 4200A testing standard and divides its requirements into performance and labeling requirements.
Products must pass multiple performance tests, including crush, drop, and battery replacement tests before establishing eligibility with retailers. The labeling requirements state that warning labels must be in English, prominently displayed, permanent, and of an appropriate size.
As of March 19. 2024, all applicable products must comply with the legislation for eligibility in US markets.

Why is It Important to Comply with Reese’s Law?
Compliance with Reese Law is an important and effective way for manufacturers to highlight their commitment to the safety of consumers, especially children. Small batteries can pose safety risks to children who may accidentally encounter them. Reese’s Law provides a way to mitigate that risk by placing safeguards between children and button cell batteries.
Adhering to Reese’s Law allows manufacturers to protect consumers and themselves from the physical and financial risks and legal consequences that may arise from button cell battery-related incidents.
