Polymer Fracture Analysis is a method of testing in which a fractured polymer-based material is analyzed to identify the causes and characteristics of the failure. Polymers can fracture at low stress levels due to structural flaws, cyclic stress and fatigue, creep rupture, long term stress, or the presence of various failure-inducing factors. There are many different defects that can lead to uneven distribution of stress in polymers, ultimately resulting in material failure, including amorphous interlayers, crystalline boundaries, and dislocations.
