Applied Technical Services can help you stretch materials to their limits with polymer tensile testing. Our tensile testing lab offers a broad range of tensile analysis options in accordance with the relevant standards.

What is Polymer Tensile Testing?

Polymer tensile testing measures the force required to break a given polymer by pulling it apart. This test evaluates various tensile properties to ensure they meet their required product or material specifications.

ATS technicians can report measurements for any of the following:

ATS Tensile Testing Laboratory

ATS technicians conduct tensile tests on polymers in our state-of-the-art lab. They employ advanced instruments to precisely measure the samplesโ€™ elongation, reduction of surface area, and force required to cause material failure.

Our equipment can reach a maximum force capacity of 10,000 lbs, as well as reduced and elevated temperatures ranging from -70ย ยฐC to 250ย ยฐC ( -19ยฐF to 482ยฐF).

Accreditations

We are ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (A2LA) accredited to perform over twenty polymer-related test methods according to industry standards. Our expertsโ€™ familiarity with various forms of polymer testing allows us to deliver results within a short turnaround time.

Besides tensile testing, we can also determine the mechanical, thermal, or chemical attributes of polymer and plastic samples.

  • ASTM D3039/D3909M โ€” Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Polymer Matrix Composite Materials
  • ASTM D412* โ€” Standard Test Methods for Vulcanized Rubber and Thermoplastic Elastomers โ€” Tension
  • ASTM D5766 โ€” Standard Test Method for Open-Hole Tensile Strength of Polymer Matrix Composite Laminates
  • ASTM D638* โ€” Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Plastics
  • ASTM D6742/D6742M โ€” Standard Practice for Filled Hole Tension and Compression Testing of Polymer Matrix Composite Laminates
  • ASTM D882 โ€” Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting
  • ISO 527-1* โ€” Plastics โ€” Determination of Tensile Properties

* Indicates our lab is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited to perform tensile testing to this standard
