pH
A pH is a unit of measurement from 0 to 14, indicating the degree of a solution’s acidity or alkalinity. Experts commonly perform pH tests in water analysis, reporting a log of negative hydrogen ion activity in a solution.
pH Meter
A pH meter is a measuring instrument with two electrodes – one for sensing hydrogen ions and one for reference. The sensing electrode detects changes in voltage for comparison, and the difference between these two voltages is shown as a pH value through the meter.

pH meter calibration is essential when using a pH meter due to how electrodes change over time. Because of aging and use, an electrode’s performance may stray from the theoretical slope and offset over time.
