VLF Cable Testing
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) conducts VLF cable testing services that confirm a cable’s reliability.
What is Very Low Frequency Testing?
Very low frequency (VLF) tests verify the quality of a cable’s insulation. During the testing process, the technician applies low frequency AC to the table. The applied voltage is significantly higher than a normal operating voltage, which challenges the insulation and exposes any weaknesses. Ineffective insulation will break down during the test and result in a failure and effective insulation will withstand the voltage for the duration of the test. VLF tests are an effective choice for field tests because of their lighter weight and increased portability when compared to their higher frequency alternatives.
