Balance calibration is necessary for preventing the natural performance decline that arises from normal use over time. As repeated usage may slowly diminish a balanceโ€™s efficiency, the accuracy of a balance or scale begins to deteriorate, and results become less accurate. It is vitally important to make sure that your device is regularly maintained through routinely scheduled balance calibrations, to preserve the precision of your balance and ensure that your device adheres to established quality requirements. At Applied Technical Services, we provide on-site or in lab balance calibrations to ensure your weighing device is measuring properly and yielding accurate results. Our mechanical calibration labs, where we perform our balance calibration service are well-equipped with modern technology and experienced staff.

Calibration Capabilities

  • Calibration Weight Range โ€“ 0 to 1200 lbs.

Types of Balances Calibrated at ATS

  • Equal Arm โ€“ An equal arm balance containing two platforms that are equidistant and separated by a pivot point, or fulcrum, that acts as the center of gravity allowing for a measurement of โ€œzeroโ€ when both scales are maintained at an equal level.
  • Unequal Arm โ€“ The unequal arm balance is comprised of two platforms that are not equidistant from the fulcrum. One arm that holds the platform is shorter than the other. The object that is weighed is placed on the shorter arm, while weights are placed on the other arm until balance is achieved.
  • Spring โ€“ The spring balance consists of a coiled spring and a hook, relying on physics and the springs physical nature to calculate the weight of an object.
  • Top Loading โ€“ A top loading balance is one of the most common types of weight measurement tools used. This balance has a weight capacity ranging from 20 g to 64.1 kg. Most top loading balances include computer interface capabilities using USB ports, short response times, and security measures.
  • Portable โ€“ The portable balance is commonly used in field work for its convenience. Its durability, rapid response, and user-friendly interface makes the portable balance an attractive option.
  • Analytical โ€“ Analytical balances are usually quite sensitive and tend to be used by trained personnel only. Due to their sensitive nature, they require regular analytical balance calibration and maintenance.
  • Semi-Microbalances and Microbalances โ€“ These balances are highly accurate and have weighing capabilities to one-hundredth of a milligram. The semi microbalances/microbalances are used for specialized purposes such as measurement of paint coatings or weighing sensitive, chemical samples.
