ATS provides dial gauge calibration for a wide range of instruments and applications. Dial gauges are portable and reliable instruments for easy-to-read linear measurements in the field. Many industries depend on dial gauge measurements for daily operations and quality control, including:

  • Manufacturing
  • Engineering
  • Construction
  • Laboratory research
  • Machine installation

Professionals use dial gauges to obtain precise measurements of small angles, forces, and distances to ensure a product meets dimensional specifications. Gauges can also provide comparative measurements to indicate defects, deformation, and misalignment.

When to Calibrate a Gauge

Industrial dial gauges require calibrations multiple times a year to compensate for the mechanical effects of operation. When the gauge probe touches a surface for measurement, it strikes the internal gears in the gauge, rotating the needle on the dial’s face. The friction and contact of these delicate metal pieces will eventually lead to wear and corrosion, while the frequent impact can displace the internal components and cause drift and parallax errors.

The gauge may also take incorrect measurements after suffering heavy environmental vibrations. Imprecise and inaccurate measurements can have dire repercussions if users base their operating decisions on flawed data.

Gauge Calibrations with ATS

ATS is ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited to provide calibration lab and field services. Our highly qualified experts have decades of experience with diverse metrological instruments, providing NIST-traceable calibration to restore precision and accuracy to critical instruments. Our technician can also determine if a dial gauge provides measurements within a client or manufacturer’s tolerances.

ATS experts work with name-brand manufacturers, including Ashcroft, Mitutoyo, Brown and Sharpe, and Starrett. Here are a few of the dial gauges the ATS calibration staff frequently calibrate:

ATS values customer service, delivering calibrations with a quick turnaround rate to minimize downtime. Clients can ship their dial gauge to one of our qualified labs. Once the device arrives, we strive to calibrate it within 7-10 business days.

After calibrating a device, our technicians compile a report on the device’s condition, including a NIST-traceable certificate of calibration, as-found and as-left data for device history, and a description of any adjustments made to correct drift. Clients can access reports 24/7 on our secure web platform, iPortal.
