What is a Printed Circuit Board?

Printed circuit boards, or PCBs, are mechanical assemblies that hold and connect the various components of electrical circuits. PCBs are an essential component of many modern electronic devices, including but not limited to the following:

  • Medical devices, including imaging systems, monitors, pumps, and medical implants
  • LED Lighting for automotive vehicles, computers, and commercial and residential properties
  • Consumer electronics, such as smart devices, video game consoles, stereos, and home appliances
  • Equipment used for industrial operations and manufacturing processes

About Our Printed Circuit Board Testing Services

Printed circuit boards are critical to a wide range of industrial practices and applications, and their reliability is of the utmost importance. Our state-of-the-art environmental testing lab conducts comprehensive tests on PCBs to ensure that their design and construction can withstand the stresses they’re expected to endure throughout their service life.  We offer thermal cycling and vibration tests on multiple types of PCBs, enabling us to support clients in various industries, including:

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Manufacturing
  • Medical
  • Military

The Importance of Vibration and Thermal Cycling Testing

Our lab helps PCB manufacturers evaluate how their devices respond to two of the primary causes of electronic failure, vibrations and thermal cycling. Printed circuit boards are not designed to withstand significant amounts of vibration, but certain devices with PCBs may be in environments with high vibration levels. These high-vibration environments can lead to the following types of damage:

  • Cracked or damaged components
  • Bent circuit boards
  • Solder joint failure

Thermal cycling causes degradation of the materials used in PCBs. The temperature fluctuations cause constant expansion and contraction, leading to cracks and other issues, such as:

  • Signal transmission difficulties
  • Delaminated layers
  • Structural degradation
