The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies’ (FoC’s) compression testing lab features the qualified staff and cutting-edge testing equipment necessary to conduct compression tests in accordance with industry standards.
What is Compression Testing?
Compression tests evaluate how materials respond to applied crushing loads, offering important insight into the static compression strength of products and their components. Technicians use universal testing machines that consist of load frames, load cells, compression plates, and software, enabling them to test a variety of materials of various sizes. Compression tests are classified as either static or dynamic. Static tests are typically conducted at speeds of less than 1mm/min, whereas dynamic tests are conducted at speeds above 10mm/min. The data collected during compression tests determines a material or component’s load-bearing capabilities and offers information on the following mechanical properties:
- Ultimate strength
- Yield strength
- Stress-strain curve
- Modulus of elasticity
About Our Compression Testing Lab
Our A2LA-accredited mechanical testing lab offers accurate and reliable compression tests that benefit clients across various industries, including:
- Medical device manufacturing
- Construction
- Aerospace
- Automotive
Our testing services ensure that our clients’ products and materials have the mechanical properties needed to excel in specific environments and conditions. Compression tests are adept at determining the safety and overall quality of materials, which is essential for research and development, material selection, and quality control purposes. We offer compression tests in compliance with the following ASTM standards:
Why are Compression Tests Important?
Compression testing is incredibly important to ensure the safety and reliability of materials. Whether assessing the structural integrity of bridges or confirming the strength and durability of medical devices, compression tests help manufacturers and engineers do the following:
- Optimize product designs and material selection processes
- Predict a material’s performance
- Compare the
- Maintain adequate quality control
- Support research and development processes
- Aid failure analysis
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
About the ATS Family of Companies
Founded in 1967, the ATS Family of Companies has spent the last several decades investing in the staff, facilities, and equipment necessary to evolve into the nationwide network of companies that it is today. We have A2LA-accredited labs scattered across the continental US, some of which offer both in-lab and on-site services designed to deliver solution-oriented services as rapidly as possible.
