The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies offers low-cycle fatigue testing services that determine the durability of various materials.
What is Low Cycle Fatigue Testing?
A low cycle fatigue test determines a material’s low cycle fatigue strength, which is its resistance to stress-induced plastic deformation or failure. Low cycle fatigue, or LCF, is characterized by low frequency and high amplitude, so test specimens subjected to LCF experience repeated plastic deformation. Before LCF testing begins, technicians prepare a test specimen and mount it onto a testing machine. They then subject the test specimen to cyclic loading at a preestablished amplitude and frequency. The testing environment’s temperature and the testing machine’s strain rate are both carefully chosen to simulate the expected operating conditions.
About Our Low Cycle Fatigue Testing Services
The ATS FoC’s mechanical testing labs offer customizable ASTM- and ISO-compliant fatigue testing services. Our A2LA-accredited facilities have the cutting-edge testing equipment necessary to deliver accurate, reliable, and competitively priced solutions to our clients. Whether we’re supporting a manufacturer developing aerospace components or evaluating structural components for a construction project, our LCF testing services offer critical insight into a material’s fatigue properties. Our fatigue tests can be conducted in compliance with the ASTM E606 standard or customized to meet the unique needs of our clients’ projects.
Equipment Capabilities
- Load Capacity: 2lbs – 55 Kip
- Temperature Range: Ambient – 1000°C
Why is LCF Testing Important?
Low cycle fatigue (LCF) testing enables manufacturers to assess how materials and components behave under extreme thermal conditions and high strain. LCF testing is adept at determining a material’s quality and ability to comply with safety and performance regulations and requirements. Fatigue tests help businesses do the following:
- Comply with regulations
- Observe a material’s response to real-world conditions
- Identify weaknesses within a product or material
- Help companies optimize product design, reducing the risk of failure
- Resolve design concerns early in the production process
