Vernier Caliper
A vernier caliper is an instrument that produces accurate linear measurements. It utilizes two graduated scales: an auxiliary scale (the vernier) and a main scale. The vernier slides parallel to the main scale, producing readings of a fraction of a division on the main scale.
The Importance of Vernier Caliper Calibration
Vernier calipers provide accurate readings for the dimensional measurements of a component, part, or product. During frequent use, vernier calipers may be susceptible to wear. Other factors, such as temperature, can also affect measurement accuracy.

The process of wringing bonds gauge blocks together via surface tension and molecular attraction to produce one standard for the test point.
