The ATS Family of Companies offers Rosemount magnetic flow meter calibrations in our calibration lab. A magnetic flow meter is a meter that uses a magnetic field to measure the velocity of a liquid moving through a pipe. These devices mainly benefit wastewater applications by assessing the water’s properties. Magnetic flow meters should be calibrated to compensate for any damage caused by temperature, vibration, or other operational failures. The calibrations are based on Faraday’s Law which predicts how a magnetic field will interact with another electric circuit to produce a magnetic field.  There are three types of magnetic flowmeters:  insertion, in-line, and low-flow magnetic meters. The insertion magnetic flow meters are the best for large applications, in-line magnetic flow meters are best used for applications with higher flow rates, and low-flow magnetic meters are used best on low-flow applications.

Qualified experts conduct calibrations to ensure that the meters provide highly accurate on-site readings. There are two types of calibration for magnetic flowmeters: direct and indirect. Direct magnetic flow calibration is where the excitation of the coil inspection method takes place. The indirect magnetic flow method uses an external clamp on the meter, which allows for measurement with no contact.
